Easy Dabeli
This is one of the popular street foods of Gujarat and it bursts with flavours and texture. I am usually put off by the requirement of lengthy list of ingredients and time required to prepare this so this is the easiest version with ingredients that are usually available in my pantry.
Ingredients:
Potatoes-5-6 large , boiled and mashed
Tamarind chutney-5 tbsp (I used 2 packets that accompanies shana punjabi samosa)
Lassan ni chutney-2 tbsp (garlic chutney)
Dabeli masala/garam masala-1tsp
Chilli powder-2 tsp
salt-2tsp
sugar-1tsp
Peanuts-1cup
oil-4tbsp
Buns
For garnishing- chopped onion and sev
Method:
1. While the potatoes are cooking, take hot oil in a wok, add the peanuts. When it starts spluttering, takes less than a minute, Drain it out onto kitchen tissue and immediately sprinkle 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp chilli powder and 1 tsp sugar. Mix and keep it aside.
2. Now mash the potatoes with 1 tsp salt.
3. In the remaining oil, add 2 tbsp garlic chutney, 1 tsp garam masala and 1 tsp chilli powder. when it sizzles, add the tamarind chutney and mix it all for a min. Now add the mashed potatoes to it and mix it all well.
Adjust the seasoning if you want.
4.To serve take the burger bun and split it half open. Spread the potato mixture, top it with peanuts and chopped onions and sev.
Take a bite and think about the good old days!
